Bonus Trivia and Facts

Note from Blaze Skyblaster: Hello! This area of the site will discuss some of the behind the scenes facts and details regarding the Youtube adaptation of Candle Cove

Lost Adaptation

Believe it or not, this is not the first time I tried to make an adaptation of Candle Cove. Back on December 18th, 2020, three years before I made the official one, I made 13 episodes of a very crude adaptation of Candle Cove that wasn't even close to the original.

Skin-Taker was a blank Whatnot Muppet.

Percy was portrayed using a police officer puppet.

Poppy was a character but was changed to be a baby girl doll.

Melrose appeared as a mermaid instead of Janice's mean sister.

Janice was human, which is actually more accurate.

Horace Horrible was a chef puppet! The list goes on!

The series was more accurate in terms of character listing, such as Melrose and Poppy, but they were complete opposites, with Poppy being a baby doll as mentioned before and Melrose being a mermaid. I even teased a third season of this version, but thank God I didn't and decided to proceed with a better adaptation.

Aborted ARG

(Alternate Reality Games) are a common trope in Analog Horror or any modern indie horror web series, and Candle Cove was no exception! It is very noticeable in the early stages of Candle Cove through promo teasers and the pilot that it was initially supposed to be an ARG. The storyline of Skin-Taker's puppet being sentient and the murder of kids who watched the show and other secret arguments about Emerson Grimes would be part of this as well. However, luckily for the series, it gradually shifted away from that concept because I wanted to create an actual series adaptation that explored what it might have been like if it weren't a creepypasta. I wanted to envision it as an actual show. To achieve this, I tried to adapt elements from the Wikipedia fandom on the show, resulting in characters like The Earl Of Wax, Sea Dog, and Abysmals. Additionally, some episodes loosely adapted the wiki episodes. However, in the end, I decided to take a more original approach to the series, and I am pleased with the result.

Technical Errors

This kind of incident happened twice to me! Percy's Birthday and Shipwrecked.

For whatever reason, when processing the episode, the audio would surpass the actual video and cause a noticeable delay. I don't think too many people cared, but it was a big pain to review the videos later and realize they were processed incorrectly. And I usually delete the video footage when done using it due to storage issues, so I would be stuck with it. Luckily, now I make sure to check the film before deleting.

Scrapped Concepts

Usually, before creating a series, I write down notes or a basic idea for a list of episodes in the said show. This is mainly to give myself something to work with and then add on if something important occurs. However, almost all of Season 2 of Candle Cove was altered in the final cut of the series.

-In: I Remember A Time, during the flashback scene, Jawbones was to sing a lullaby to Janice as he leaves her, but it was cut due to time.

-The Dream Effigies in Shipwrecked were supposed to be working for Skin-Taker, but it was also a removed concept since they never appeared again. But that is how Sea Dog ended up dead in Skin-Taker's lair.

-Janice was to be mindcontrolled by Skin-Taker, and the Laughingstock Crew was to do a clip show episode to bring her memories back.

-Skin-Taker would try to take over the island instead of being an aimless agent of chaos. He would even sing a big song about his victory.

-Horace's redemption, if you even call it that, is so sudden, was going to be more noticeable, and actually helpful.

-The backstory of why the Laughingstock is alive would have gone into more detail. With him being a reincarnation of a creature that wasted his gift of resurrection and was punished to live as a ship that never died but would have no control.

-Skin-Taker would have a backstory episode but it was removed for being kinda pointless.

Random References

They were funny in my head, but looking back at it, these references don’t make sense given Candle Cove is set as a show in 1971-1972. Specifically in Technical Difficulties where Skin-Taker plays a wheel of fortune parody on a hostage despite the show being in 1975. 4 years after this episode’s in-universe airing.

Cancelled Spinoff

A few months after wrapping up Candle Cove, I had thoughts to myself about writing an “Epilogue Spinoff” to Candle Cove similar to: Steven Universe Future, Adventure Time: Distant Lands and stuff of that nature, it would have taken place 3 years after the series and would have been about Janice (who has returned to her hometown) being forced to grow up and move on from Candle Cove by her mother who is noticing that the ordeal has seemed to have affected her behavior. Janice runs away and finds herself back at Candle Cove with her friends and the adventures they have. I ended up scrapping the idea since it really didn’t seem to be necessary, my family moved so the set would be kind of off and after wrapping up production, I kind of gave away or trashed the puppets since they would no longer be in use: Elfheimer, Skin-Taker and Percy (trashed because he was actually broken while filming) I think were the ones removed. Making any revival not work, mostly with Percy being trashed.

That is all for now. More stuff might be added later. See you guys soon!-Blaze
